New License Allows RE Biotech. to Control Quality and Pricing of Placenta-Based Cosmetics

RE Biotech. (RE Biotech.), an in-house bio-venture established by Japan Bio Products Co., Ltd. (JBP) in 2023, has obtained its cosmetics manufacturing license as of August 1, 2025.
With this license, RE Biotech. has completed the full in-house production of cosmetics, from the collection of human placenta and isolation of placental cells to the manufacturing of cell culture supernatant and final product shipment.

Background

Previous market research indicated that cell culture supernatant cosmetics often varied in quality and were traded at high market prices, with frequent reports of issues, especially with products sourced from overseas.

By securing this license, we have established Japan's only end-to-end production line for these products, from raw material sourcing to manufacturing. This allows us to supply high-quality products at a fair price. Our clean-room facilities for manufacturing cell culture supernatant cosmetics also enable us to produce preservative-free products. We also plan to produce industrial-scale quantities of undiluted cell culture supernatant, making it available as a raw material for other cosmetic manufacturers.

JBP is a pharmaceutical company that manufactures and sells the human placenta-based drug, Laennec. Established in 1970, JBP celebrates its 55th anniversary in 2025. Laennec is used to improve liver function and is distributed in 15 countries worldwide (as of 2025).
