Japan Bio Products Co.,Ltd. Signs Exclusive Manufacturing and Supply Agreement with Taiwan’s MAXIGEN BIOTECH INC. (MBI)

Japan Bio Products Co., Ltd. (JBP) is conducting R&D to commercialize placenta-derived tissues for medical devices and research reagents. The company is now nearing final commercialization of an injectable device based on placenta-derived collagen hydrogel. To accelerate product completion and global launch, JBP has entered into an exclusive manufacturing and supply agreement with MAXIGEN BIOTECH INC. (MBI), a leading collagen medical device manufacturer in Taiwan.

Under this alliance, JBP will produce placenta-derived collagen hydrogel, while MBI will handle filling, packaging, and regulatory submissions. After securing approval in Taiwan, the partners plan to pursue global regulatory clearances, starting with the U.S. FDA.
This collaboration between a leading placenta-based pharmaceutical company and a major collagen medical device manufacturer marks a significant step toward introducing placenta-derived collagen medical devices worldwide. The unique properties of placenta-derived collagen—enabling stem cell proliferation and enhanced cellular activity—hold great promise not only in aesthetics, but also in future regenerative applications in reconstructive surgery and dentistry.  

 JBP has been manufacturing and marketing the placenta-derived injectable drug Laennec for over 50 years and holds the world’s leading market share in this category. Building on its long-standing expertise in placenta-based research, the company established the in-house venture RE Biotech in 2023 to focus on regenerative medicine. RE Biotech leads the development of placenta-derived collagen medical devices and is also advancing regenerative medicine projects on human placenta-derived stem cells and exosomes in collaboration with national universities and major corporations.
